The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Abbottabad, carried out a major operation against illegal IMEI tampering and the sale of cloned or patched mobile phones. Their efforts led to a successful raid on key sites involved in these crimes.
The raid targeted mobile repair shops near the Sufi Hotel, Lorry Adda, in Mansehra. During the operation, authorities seized desktop computers and specialized software used to alter IMEI numbers. Six suspects were caught at the scene and taken into custody for further legal action.
PTA has clear policies against modifying mobile device identifiers illegally. They warn that tampering with IMEI numbers and selling cloned phones threatens the country’s security and public safety. These illegal acts help criminals stay anonymous and support cybercrime, fraud, kidnapping, and other crimes.
The PTA encourages the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity related to phone cloning or tampering. The agency is increasing enforcement efforts, and anyone involved in such illegal acts will face strict legal penalties.
