The PTA Advices Mobile Buyers to Check Tax Payment Status Before Purchase

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has recommended that all consumers check the tax payment status of mobile devices before making a purchase.

Buyers are required to confirm that all necessary taxes have been settled for their devices and that these devices are registered under the appropriate CNIC or passport category in the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS), as stated by the PTA.

For individuals acquiring an unregistered mobile device, they should remit all relevant taxes and duties within 60 days to permit usage on local networks. The PTA also recommended that individuals personally submit the required taxes solely through authorized banking channels. It is essential to exercise caution to avoid falling victim to fraudulent offers or unauthorized intermediaries who may claim to assist with tax payments, according to the PTA.

It is essential to emphasize that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is the sole authority responsible for the imposition of these taxes and duties. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has a restricted function, which involves monitoring the registration of devices via the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) to guarantee their lawful operation and connectivity within local networks, as stated.
