PTA And FIA Raid Shops Selling Pre-Activated Foreign SIMs in Pakistan

In a major crackdown against the illegal trade of mobile SIM card sellers, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), specifically its Cyber Crime Wing, executed a series of synchronized nationwide operations targeting individuals engaged in the illegal distribution of active international SIM cards.

These operations are integral to a continuous initiative aimed at addressing fraudulent telecommunications practices and safeguarding national security.

The raids, executed in various locations such as Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore, and Sialkot, focused on individuals and organizations involved in the unauthorized distribution and sale of international SIM cards utilized for unlawful activities, including fraud and unverified communications. Numerous suspects were detained, and a significant number of illegally activated SIM cards were confiscated.

PTA and FIA are actively overseeing the illegal trade of active SIM cards, which significantly endangers public safety by facilitating anonymous and untraceable communications. The utilization of these SIM cards for unlawful activities, including cybercrime, financial fraud, abduction, and other criminal acts, has raised alarms among security agencies.

Authorities have called upon the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities related to SIM card sales. Enhanced regulatory measures are being implemented to curb the unauthorized distribution of SIM cards, with strict penalties for those who violate these regulations.

The government, along with the telecom regulator, is collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that mobile network services adhere to legal standards and do not become accessible to criminal organizations.
