Google Chrome use AI to Automatically Change your Hacked Passwords

Google is reportedly working on a new security feature for Chrome that could automatically replace compromised passwords with stronger, AI-generated options. This would be an improvement upon the existing system, which only alerts users when their saved credentials have been involved in a data breach.

A well-known software researcher identified the “Automated Password Change” functionality in an initial version of Chrome within the AI settings. The description indicates that when Chrome recognizes a compromised password, it can automatically create and save a new password instead of notifying the user.

Windows Report indicates that the latest update removes the requirement for users to manually update compromised credentials. The Google Password Manager will automatically save the new password, ensuring easy access for future logins. Additionally, Google also notes that the stored password is kept encrypted and confidential.

Google’s initial characterization calls this an “AI innovation”; the specific function of AI within this process is not yet defined. There is a possibility that AI may contribute to the creation of more robust passwords, streamline the password change procedure across various platforms, or improve security recommendations for users.

Chrome’s current password breach detection system has helped users secure their accounts by identifying compromised credentials. However, the effort involved in updating these passwords frequently results in users delaying or ignoring the alerts. With the implementation of automatic password replacement, Google seeks to streamline security measures and promote improved password management.

As this feature remains in the initial stages of development, a definitive timeline for its launch has yet to be established.
