Google has launched automatic transcription for videos stored in Google Drive, allowing users to search these transcripts as required.
The company began the rollout of this feature today for all Google Workspace subscribers. The complete implementation is expected by March 26th, ensuring that every Google Drive user will have access by that date.
The newly introduced transcripts are designed to resemble the YouTube format. When accessible, these transcripts appear alongside the video in a sidebar with timestamped text blocks. These blocks are highlighted in real-time as the speaker says the words in the video, like subtitles. Users can easily navigate to particular moments by clicking on any text segment within the transcript. A dedicated search bar at the top of the sidebar lets users quickly find specific content within lengthy videos.
Here is what it looks like in action.

This feature can be accessed by selecting the settings icon at the bottom of the video player and then selecting the “Transcript” option. This addition should prove especially useful for professionals and teams that frequently engage with video content stored in their Google Drive accounts, offering better navigation and faster content searches.

As the rollout has commenced, this feature is expected to be available in Pakistan soon, if it is not already. It is important to note that auto transcripts are available exclusively to Google Workspace, which is a paid service.
