At MWC 2025, Lenovo introduced a pioneering and environmentally sustainable concept known as the Yoga Solar PC Proof of Concept. This revolutionary laptop is equipped with a built-in solar panel, enabling users to charge their devices in outdoor settings without the need to depend solely on conventional chargers.
How much energy can it generate? The solar panel is capable of providing a charge to your battery. According to the manufacturer, it can capture sufficient direct sunlight in just 20 minutes to enable up to one hour of video playback.

This Yoga Solar PC prototype is also said to be able to charge the laptop indoors. It operates on Intel’s “Lunar Lake” Core Ultra 200 platform. Consequently, a future consumer PC equipped with a Snapdragon SoC could potentially achieve even longer usage with a similar solar cell.
In addition to the laptop, Lenovo has unveiled a Yoga Solar PC kit, which serves as a portable solar charging solution compatible with any USB-C device. The panel is impressively thin at 15 mm, and the entire laptop weighs only 1.5 kg, making it both portable and suitable for outdoor activities.
How Yoga Solar PC Works?
The Yoga Solar PC Proof of Concept features a removable solar panel capable of charging the laptop both during operation and while it is not in use. This solar panel utilizes Back Contact Cell technology, which relocates mounting brackets and grid lines to the rear of the solar cells, thereby enhancing efficiency to 24%, surpassing the 19-20% efficiency typical of most commercially available solar cells. Furthermore, the Dynamic Solar Tracking system maximizes energy absorption by adjusting the panel’s configuration in response to variations in sunlight intensity.
Although individuals typically do not work outdoors in direct sunlight or leave their PCs exposed to such conditions, this proof of concept provides a means to remain connected when the power grid is unavailable or when one is outdoors.
Yoga Solar PC Kit: A Versatile Charging Solution
For individuals lacking a solar-powered laptop, Lenovo’s Yoga Solar PC kit presents a versatile option. This kit comprises two solar panels and a USB-C power bank, enabling users to harness solar energy to charge any device compatible with USB-C.

Lenovo has not yet disclosed the pricing or availability details for the Yoga Solar PC Proof of Concept and its associated kit. Nevertheless, this development marks a noteworthy advancement in the pursuit of sustainable computing.
