At MWC 2025, Samsung introduced its newest innovation: the Flex Gaming concept. This handheld gaming console features a 7.2-inch foldable OLED display and is designed to transform the gaming industry by providing a compact and portable solution for gamers on the go.
A New Era For Handheld Gaming Could be on the Horizon
Handheld gaming consoles, such as the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch, are often characterized by their cumbersome designs, which can hinder portability. Samsung’s Flex Gaming concept seeks to remedy this challenge by integrating a hinge and a foldable display, enabling it to fold like a Galaxy Z Flip smartphone.
The Flex Gaming console is equipped with joysticks and D-pads on either side of the display, featuring a distinctive cavity design that allows the joysticks to be stored neatly when the device is folded. Additionally, it includes a home button, a button labeled with an ‘N’, and a USB Type-C port located at the bottom. The prototype’s vibrant lime-like green-yellow color imparts a modern and dynamic aesthetic to the device.
Although Samsung has yet to disclose specific details regarding resolution, refresh rate, or brightness, it is anticipated that the foldable display will mirror the technology found in Samsung’s foldable smartphones. If this is accurate, it would provide gamers with an engaging visual experience.
This year’s Flex Gaming concept represents a notable advancement from the model presented at CES 2023, which featured a flip-open display instead of a foldable one. The updated design is more functional and meets the increasing demand for compact and portable gaming solutions.
It is noteworthy that Samsung is dedicating resources to explore areas beyond its core business while addressing practical challenges.
