Samsung is Already Testing One UI 8 for Three Devices, Including Foldables

We’re already three months into 2025, and Samsung has yet to deliver a stable One UI 7 update for its devices, which is quite late this year.

Currently, only the Galaxy S24 series, along with the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 (which just started beta testing yesterday), have access to the update. At this rate, Android 15 may not reach all eligible Galaxy devices until the fourth quarter.

However, it seems that One UI 8 will be a different story, as the company is gearing up to launch the Android 16 update much earlier than anticipated.

Recent reports from two users on X indicate that Samsung has already kicked off internal testing of One UI 8 for the Galaxy S25 series, as well as the Z Fold 6 and Flip 6.

It’s ironic but not Surprising

You heard it correctly—Samsung is already diving into One UI 8 development even before One UI 7 has fully rolled out. It may seem a bit ironic, but this kind of early internal testing is quite common, taking place months ahead of a public beta release.

What’s particularly interesting is that Samsung appears to be ahead of schedule by about two months. This aligns with speculation that Android 16 will be released in June, which could explain the quicker timeline.

The internal test build for the S25 series of One UI 8 is identified by the firmware version SM-S938B, while the Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 have their builds marked as SM-F956B and SM-F741B, respectively.

Now, the big question is: will Samsung accelerate its One UI release schedule, or are we in for another gradual rollout? Fingers crossed for the former, as it would be great to see the company pick up the pace with One UI 7.

What’s a bit frustrating is the absence of a clear timeline. Samsung hasn’t provided users with specific information on when to expect the update, leaving many in uncertainty. A bit of transparency would certainly help.
