Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series has just been laid out in the form of pre-production metal molds. Apple is set to implement significant modifications to its devices and operating systems this year. It has been revealed that the company based in Cupertino is working on a new design for iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16, inspired by visionOS. Additionally, the forthcoming iPhone 17 series is anticipated to introduce substantial enhancements, including the iPhone 17 Air, which will be the thinnest model released thus far. Recent dummy models have surfaced, confirming essential details about the upcoming lineup.
In a recent leak from a reputable source, Sonny Dickson has provided us with images of the iPhone 17 prototypes, revealing the design of the upcoming iPhones. These visuals align with previous renders that depicted pill-shaped camera arrangements across the series. While the front and back designs present intriguing details, it is the edge view that offers insight into the anticipated appearance of the iPhone 17 Air.

A comparative analysis of the prototypes illustrates the slim profile of the “Air” model relative to the other iPhones. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg emphasizes that Apple is reducing the thickness of the Air by approximately 20% compared to its counterparts. Consequently, the iPhone 17 Air will be 2mm thinner than the other new models, measuring just 5.5mm. This difference is visible in the prototype images, which make the other iPhone 17 variants appear considerably bulkier.
Additionally, these images indicate the display size of the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to feature a 6.6-inch screen. This size positions it between the 6.3-inch display of the Pro model and the 6.9-inch display of the Pro Max. Gurman suggests that Apple may have opted for a smaller display to mitigate the risk of bending in such a thin device. The dummy images also confirm several features of the Air model, including a Camera Control button, a Dynamic Island cutout, and a single 48-megapixel rear camera similar to that of the iPhone 16e.

Furthermore, Gurman has indicated that the iPhone 17 Air may be priced at approximately $900. It is expected to include a range of Pro-level features, such as a 120Hz ProMotion display while being equipped with more basic components like the Apple A19 chip, rather than the A19 Pro found in the Pro models.
A Port-Free iPhone?
The Bloomberg report provides insight into Apple’s ambitious plans for future iPhone models. It indicates that Apple intends to create a completely wireless iPhone Air lineup, eliminating all ports. This would result in a device that relies solely on wireless charging and data transfer via iCloud.
However, it seems that Apple will not pursue this direction with the iPhone 17 Air, as it will retain the USB-C port for the time being due to concerns regarding European Union regulations. According to Apple executives, the company may reconsider this approach in the future if there is significant demand for the Air model.
Gurman notes that the efforts to create a slimmer phone will also support the development of a potential foldable iPhone. Thus, the design, battery, and display of the iPhone 17 Air will play a crucial role in the evolution of Apple’s foldable device. This innovative iPhone may be unveiled in 2026, coinciding with major updates to next year’s Pro models, and could serve as a significant tribute to the 20th anniversary of the iPhone.
