Scammers pose as PTA officials to obtain sensitive personal and financial information through fraudulent phone calls.
The scam usually starts with an automated message from a female voice that greets you with, “Assalam-o-Alaikum, this is a call from PTA.” The caller aims to instill fear by claiming that a complaint has been lodged against your phone number, which they assert has been verified. They then threaten that all SIM cards registered in your name will be deactivated within two hours unless you provide additional information. The call prompts you to press 9 on your keypad, mimicking the style of an automated bank call.
After you press 9, the scammers will ask for personal details, including your identity card number and bank account information, to resolve the supposed issue. They warn you that failure to comply will result in the immediate suspension of your phone services.
Warning to the Public
These calls are entirely fraudulent and have no affiliation with the PTA. We strongly advise our readers not to disclose any personal or financial information to these callers. These scams are crafted to steal money from victim’s bank accounts or misuse their identities for illegal activities.
What to Do
- Immediately hang up the call
