Chinese Smartphones to Standardize Much Bigger Batteries by the End of 2025

The competition to develop higher mAh batteries is driving fresh innovations in the mobile sector.

Recent reports from China suggest that the trend of increasing battery sizes will persist into the latter part of 2025. By year-end, flagship smartphones equipped with the new MediaTek Dimensity 9500 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipsets are anticipated to have a standard battery capacity of 7,000 mAh. This marks a significant upgrade from last year’s common 6,000 mAh batteries, indicating a clear move towards smartphones with longer battery life.

Silicon-based batteries have emerged as a prominent trend among flagship smartphones, especially from Chinese brands. This innovative technology has greatly enhanced battery density, enabling larger capacities without adding to the device’s thickness.

Going Further Beyond

Some high-end models are set to exceed expectations, featuring batteries that reach up to 7,500 mAh. Mid-range smartphones are also in the mix, with some expected to boast batteries as large as 8,000 mAh. For example, Honor is rumored to unveil a phone with an impressive 8,000 mAh battery in the coming week.

Charging Speeds to Match

As battery capacities increase, charging speeds are expected to rise as well. The flagship devices anticipated for late 2025 will support 100W wired charging and wireless charging speeds ranging from 50W to 80W. This means users can look forward to significantly shorter charging times, even with larger battery sizes.

While 100W wired charging isn’t a new concept, it is likely to become more prevalent in future smartphones.

The Silicon Battery Divide

Although these advancements are thrilling, they currently seem to be confined to Chinese smartphone manufacturers. Major brands like Samsung, Apple, and Google have yet to incorporate silicon-based batteries into their devices, putting them at a disadvantage in this fast-evolving race. It remains uncertain whether we will see these battery enhancements in Galaxy or Pixel devices anytime soon.
