Qualcomm is gearing up to unveil its next flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, anticipated to launch around October 2025. A recent leak from China has shed light on the expected hardware specifications and performance enhancements of this new processor.
CPU: Upgraded Oryon Cores
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is likely to feature Qualcomm’s second-generation Oryon CPU cores, which are projected to provide approximately a 25% boost in performance compared to the original Snapdragon 8 Elite.
These cores are expected to retain an octa-core setup, emphasizing better multi-threading capabilities and improved power efficiency. This advancement will enable the chip to manage more demanding processing tasks and multitask effectively in high-end smartphones and tablets.
GPU: Increased Cache and Better Performance
The leak also indicates that the GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will benefit from a larger independent cache, increasing from 12MB in the previous model to 16MB. This upgrade is anticipated to enhance graphics performance by up to 30%. The increased cache size will allow the GPU to handle data more efficiently during resource-intensive activities such as gaming, video editing, or running graphically intensive applications.
Memory Support: LPDDR5X and LPDDR6
Additionally, the chip is expected to support both LPDDR5X and LPDDR6 RAM. While LPDDR6 is not yet widely adopted, early compatibility suggests that the Elite 2 will be ready for future hardware configurations, enabling manufacturers to integrate newer memory technologies seamlessly.
Availability
While Qualcomm has yet to officially confirm any details, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to be announced at the annual Snapdragon Summit in October.
