Meta Just Launched Its AI App and It Knows More About You Than ChatGPT

Meta is launching a new standalone AI app after including Meta AI in WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. This app, shown at the LlamaCon event, gives users a dedicated place to chat with Meta’s AI. It is similar to apps like ChatGPT or Google Gemini.

Unlike other AI tools, Meta’s assistant can personalize responses based on information you’ve shared on Facebook and Instagram over the years. The company plans to use your profile details and how you interact with content to make the AI more relevant. For now, this feature works only for users in the US and Canada.

You can also teach the AI more about yourself. For example, if you tell it you’re lactose intolerant, it might stop suggesting wine and cheese pairings to you.

While the idea of a personalized AI sounds useful, users should stay careful. Meta depends a lot on ads, which raises worries about how they might use data from AI chats long term. People should be cautious about giving away personal details and how those might affect their privacy.

The app also has a new Discover feed. Here, users can choose to share their AI chats with friends. For instance, someone might ask the bot to describe themselves with emojis and then post the result. Meta says these posts will only show up with the user’s permission.
