Grand Theft Auto VI Official Release Date Announced by Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will no longer be released this fall as planned. The new release date is set for May 26, 2026.

On its website, Rockstar explained that the delay is needed to ensure the game meets players’ expectations for quality and finish.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” Rockstar said. “The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”

The company said extra time is necessary to deliver the game to the high standard fans expect and deserve.

This delay comes after the first trailer was shown in December 2023, confirming that GTA VI will return to Vice City and feature the franchise’s first female lead, Lucia.

The trailer also hinted at Bonnie and Clyde-style themes for the story.

Since then, there has been little news, with no new footage or detailed gameplay updates. Take-Two Interactive might share more during its upcoming financial call on May 15.

Despite the wait, fans still look forward to GTA VI. Grand Theft Auto V remains popular, even after 11 years, recently topping Twitch’s viewer charts for 2024.

Rockstar hasn’t revealed a new trailer or more gameplay yet, but says more details will be coming soon. Fans are eager to finally have a date to mark on their calendars after anticipating the game for so long.
