The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) clarified on Friday that it has not requested that YouTube or any other social media sites in Pakistan be blocked or shut down.
PTA explained that a past press release about shutting down YouTube in Pakistan is being shared again online. That original release was from September 2012, following orders from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. PTA said this has confused people.
The authority clarified that the old statement does not apply to today’s situation. Right now, PTA has not given any orders to block or shut down YouTube or other social media platforms.
PTA urged everyone to check only its official website and verified social media pages for correct and current information.
