Apple and Samsung led global smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2025, according to Counterpoint Research. These two brands made up nine of the top ten best-sellers worldwide. Xiaomi was the only other brand to reach the list.
Vanilla iPhone Won After 2 Years
The iPhone 16 became the best-selling phone from January to March 2025. This is the first time since 2023 that a standard iPhone model topped global sales. It gained particular traction in Japan, the Middle East, and Africa, where sales growth was the most significant.

Apple Holds the Top Four Positions
The iPhone 16, the second and third best-sellers were the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro. These Pro models accounted for nearly half of Apple’s total iPhone sales during this period. The previous year’s main model, the iPhone 15, ranked fourth.
Samsung’s Galaxy A16 5G took fifth place, becoming the company’s top seller. The Galaxy A06 followed it at sixth. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung’s only high-end model on the list, finished seventh.
Xiaomi’s Redmi 14C secured eighth place, making it the only device not from Apple or Samsung to appear in the top ten.
The Galaxy A55 and iPhone 16 Plus finished ninth and tenth, completing the ranking.
