Samsung is preparing to release the One UI 8 update based on Android 16. This update isn’t limited to new devices. Recent test versions have appeared for older models like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy S22+, indicating a wider release in the coming months.
Geekbench listings, reported by SamMobile, reveal that US versions of these phones—model numbers SM-F946U for the Z Fold 5 and SM-G906U for the S22+ are running One UI 8. The early test versions scored modestly on benchmarks: the Fold 5 achieved about 1,892 in single-core and 5,143 in multi-core. The S22+ scored roughly 1,524 and 3,678. These scores are typical for early software tests and show Samsung is still working on the update.

So far, only US models have been observed. Global versions are expected to get the update soon after the official launch. The rollout is likely after Samsung’s Unpacked event on July 9, when the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 will be announced with One UI 8 included. It’s expected that a wider release will start around August or September.
For the Galaxy Z Fold 5, launched in 2023, this will be its third major Android update. The new version should bring small but useful changes, like better AI features from Google Gemini and smoother animations.

The Galaxy S22 series from 2022 is nearing the end of its software support. One UI 8 will be the last big update for these phones. Most updates will focus on security patches. Some users on Samsung forums have shared disappointment over the missing major features. Still, improvements like better battery use and multitasking should enhance daily use.
It’s a good sign that Samsung is testing Android 16 and One UI 8 on older phones like the S22+ before the foldable devices hit the market. This follows delays with the rollout of One UI 7, so the testing on older models is a positive step forward.
