Pakistan wants to team up with China on electric car batteries. They are focusing on sodium-ion technology. This is a key area for future talks.
In Beijing, Pakistan’s Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal spoke at a news conference. He said Pakistan wants to partner with Chinese companies. They are eager to advance electric vehicle technology. Sodium-ion batteries are a prime example.
Iqbal noted that electric cars are a big growth area for Pakistan. He praised China’s lead in battery tech. “Electric cars are very important now,” he stated. “Pakistan hopes to gain from China’s progress.”
He also mentioned the Pakistan-China Business Conference. It will happen in China on September 4. This event will bring together business leaders. Over 250 Pakistani companies and 200 Chinese ones are expected.
“The conference will help match businesses,” Iqbal said. “This includes electric vehicles, solar power, and farming.”
Iqbal added that Chinese firms can gain from EV investment in Pakistan. Local production there can cut costs. It also provides access to a growing market. These partnerships help Pakistan with its energy goals. They also create jobs and support growth.
Pakistan’s electric vehicle plan aims high. By 2030, 30% of new cars sold should be electric. They want zero transport emissions by 2060. The plan offers tax breaks and help for local making. It also supports outside investment.
Some Chinese companies are already in Pakistan’s EV market. BYD and Chery are assembling cars. They are also building charging stations. Joint ventures are also being explored.
