Samsung’s Quick Share redesign expands to non-Galaxy Android phones

Samsung has revamped the Quick Share interface, which is now offered by Samsung and is no longer restricted to Galaxy devices. According to a report from Android Authority, Google has begun rolling out the new design to other Android phones.

Samsung’s Android 16-based One UI 8.0 brings many upgrades. The redesigned Quick Share is one of them. In One UI 7, a pop-up window allows you to customize who can share content with you when you access the quick settings panel and tap the Quick Share icon. When you tap the Quick Share button in One UI 8, a full-screen interface with Send and Receive tabs is displayed, making content exchange simpler. That modification is now available to Android devices other than Samsung.

Users can preview files before sharing them on the Send tab, and the Receive tab makes it easier to accept incoming transfers. The update builds on last year’s merger of Nearby Share and Quick Share, which unified Android’s wireless sharing under a single system.

Quick Share now works across all Android brands, wireless transfers via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and debuted as Quick Share in 2020. It can be used with or without an internet connection, and it can store anything from single photos to large folders. The service is preloaded on Chromebooks and is already available on the majority of Android phones by default. Google also released a Windows client in 2023, making file transfer between Android devices and PCs simpler. The next logical step seems to be to include iOS and macOS in this ecosystem. However, getting iPhone users to download a separate Google app when they already have AirDrop built in will be the real challenge.

With One UI 7, Samsung has accomplished something incredible. Easily Samsung’s biggest Android update in years, One UI 7 has ample new features and a much-needed fresh coat of paint across the board—making it the most enjoyable piece of Samsung software I’ve used in a long, long time.
