Introducing Galaxy XR, the first Android XR headset

The very first device based on Android XR, our brand-new operating system for glasses and headsets of the next generation, was unveiled today by Samsung.

Android XR gives you new ways to use an AI assistant and play apps and games by combining Gemini’s helpfulness with an awareness of your surroundings. This novel approach to interacting with technology can be seen for the first time with the Galaxy XR headset.

Try Android XR on the new Galaxy XR

With Gemini by your side, the Galaxy XR gives you an infinite screen to explore your apps. It lets you switch between being completely immersed in a virtual world and staying present in the real world, and you can use your voice, hands, and eyes to naturally navigate the interface.

Because it is Android, you can install your favorite apps from Google Play on its infinite screen. You can access Google apps that have been reimagined for XR, totally new experiences made for Android XR by developers, and millions of mobile and tablet apps, including:

  • Apps from popular streaming services like Crunchyroll, HBO Max, and Peacock
  • Google Maps, Google Photos, YouTube, Google TV, Chrome, and Meet have all been updated.
  • Games like Mirrorscape, Owlchemy Labs, and Resolution Games are notable examples of immersive games.
  • Over 50 brand-new XR experiences from Adobe, Calm, Fox Sports, MLB, and other companies.

Even more innovative content is on the way because Android XR is built on open standards and supports tools like OpenXR, WebXR, and Unity.

However, the fact that Gemini was designed for it makes this experience truly transformative. Gemini Live can better understand what you’re doing and seeing on the Galaxy XR, making it easier to get the help you need or have your apps take action on your behalf with just a conversation.

Three ways the Galaxy XR lets you watch, explore, and create are as follows:

Enjoy movies and memories

The Galaxy XR turns any room into your own personal theater when it’s time to relax. You can explore the world’s largest collection of immersive VR content in 180 and 360 degrees on YouTube, as well as the brand-new spatial tab for content that creators have converted to 3D. You can also kick back and watch movies in Google TV on a massive, resizable screen.

With Google Photos, you can convert your entire existing library of 2D photos and videos into 3D, letting you step into your memories.

Gemini is prepared to assist you while you are playing games, watching videos, or looking at photos. When watching basketball highlights, for instance, you can easily inquire about a player’s stats. Gemini receives the information in real time and comprehends what you’re seeing.

Explore your world

With Google Maps on Android XR, you can explore the world in stunning 3D with Immersive View. Walk the streets of Tokyo before you book a trip, soar over the Grand Canyon, or even revisit your old neighborhood, all from your living room. And with Gemini, you can simply ask, “What’s the story behind this building?” while you’re exploring a landmark like the Colosseum to get a response right away.

You can also find useful information about anything you see by using Circle to Search on a virtual object or a real-world object in your room without interrupting your flow.

Create your ultimate workspace

On the Galaxy XR, you can have multiple apps open at any size, including your music app, documents, and browser, and arrange them all around you in a large, private space.

Taking a Google Meet call with video tiles you can expand to clearly read expressions, organizing your Chrome tabs in an arc, using Flow in stunning detail, or both of these scenarios are possible.

New apps, like Adobe’s immersive video editing app Project Pulsar and TopHatch’s sketching app Concepts, are also available today to help you create. For a complete desktop experience, you can even link your PC or pair a keyboard and mouse.

Gemini becomes a true creative partner at this point. You can brainstorm with Gemini about what you’re looking at, and when your space gets too cluttered, just say, “Hey Google, organize these windows,” and Gemini will instantly arrange them into a neat layout.

With the Galaxy XR, your workspace is infinite. You can arrange multiple apps around you and switch seamlessly between tasks.

Galaxy XR is available starting today for $1799 or $149/month. It is available for purchase on Samsung.com and at Samsung Experience stores in the United States and Korea. Additionally, you can sign up for a demo at select Google Stores in New York and California or Samsung stores.

We’ve put together the Explorer Pack for those who want to try it out first (terms apply 1). It is a one-time, all-access pass to the Galaxy XR’s capabilities. It contains:

  • Google Play Pass, YouTube Premium, and AI Pro for a year.
  • A three-month YouTube TV trial for $1 per month in the United States, or a six-month TVING Premium trial in Korea.
  • Access to NBA League Pass for the 2025–2026 season in the United States, or Coupang Play Sports Pass for a year in Korea.
  • Additionally, access to Adobe, Asteroid, and Calm’s Project Pulsar, NFL PRO ERA, and Status Pro.

We’re just getting started. In the not-too-distant future, we will provide even more information on the Android XR devices and experiences.
