Huawei Launches Its Own Slim Phone But Its Better Than iPhone Air in Every Way

The Mate 70 Air has been officially unveiled by Huawei, bringing a slimmer model to the company’s collection of premium smartphones with lightweight and thin designs. The Mate 70 Air, like Motorola’s Moto X70 Air and Edge 70, is superior to Apple’s most recent slim phone in every way.

Design and Display

The Mate 70 Air has a 208-gram weight and a body thickness of 6.6 millimeters. It includes a 7-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2760 × 1320 pixels and supports a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals.

Despite its slim frame, the phone is rated IP68 and IP69 for resistance to dust and water. It is available in three finishes: Gold and Silver Brocade, White Feather Robe, and Obsidian Black.

Internals and Software

Huawei is offering two chipset options based on memory configuration. The Kirin 9020A is used in the version with 12GB of RAM, while the Kirin 9020B is used in the version with 16GB of RAM. Both options come with either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.

The phone launches with HarmonyOS 5.1, which includes various AI features to improve overall performance and user experience.

Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2 with LE, NFC, and Beidou satellite communication are some of the connectivity options. It also features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and supports Hi-Res audio.

Cameras

On the back, the Mate 70 Air has a quad-camera setup. Optical image stabilization and a 50MP wide-angle sensor make up the primary lens. It is supported by a 12MP RYYB telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and OIS, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 1.5MP color sensor. For selfies and video calls, the front houses a 10.7MP camera.

Battery and Pricing

Huawei has equipped the Mate 70 Air with a 6,500 mAh battery, which supports 66W wired fast charging. Additionally, the phone supports 5W reverse wired charging for powering additional devices.

The 12GB RAM with 256GB storage model is priced at approximately $590. The prices for the 12GB/512GB and 16GB/256GB models are approximately $660. The highest-end version with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage is available for roughly $730.
