A 9000mAh battery could be coming to a Redmi phone if only we knew which one

According to a new Chinese report, Redmi may be preparing to release a smartphone with one of the largest batteries ever seen on a mainstream smartphone.

A well-known source of information, Digital Chat Station, claims that a specific manufacturer has produced a single-cell silicon battery with a capacity of 9,000 milliamp hours and the ability to handle 100 watts of fast charging.

The company is reportedly testing a 10,000 mAh version in its labs, which is even more ambitious.

The company behind the project is not named in the leak, but Chinese website MyDrivers thinks it could be a part of the Redmi Turbo 5 series, which is expected to launch in December or January.

It could debut on the Redmi Turbo 5

Despite this, there is some ambiguity regarding the actual battery capacity. A separate report earlier this week, also citing DCS, claimed that the Redmi Turbo 5 would feature a 7,500mAh battery instead.

However, earlier leaks indicated a Turbo 5 unit with 9,000 mAh or more. Therefore, either a different Turbo 5 model or an entirely new Redmi device will use the larger pack.

The Redmi Turbo 5 is said to be the first phone with MediaTek’s new Dimensity 8500 chipset under the hood. Built on TSMC’s 4nm process, it’s said to feature an octa-core Arm Cortex-A725 CPU clocked at up to 3.4GHz, paired with a Mali-G720 GPU running around 1.5GHz.

The Turbo 5 Pro may up the ante with either the Dimensity 9500e or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 for users with higher expectations. The Dimensity 9500e, in particular, is expected to include a Cortex-X925 prime core, an Immortalis-G925 GPU, and hardware-level AI acceleration.
