Apple is testing a new 200-megapixel camera sensor that could change how iPhone photos are taken. A recent leak suggests this high-resolution sensor might appear in future iPhone models, along with major design updates. As fans await the next Apple release, these hints point to a major shift in iPhone features and design.
A Weibo tipster called Digital Chat Station shared that Apple is working on a 200MP sensor, most likely for the main camera on a future iPhone. While the design for the iPhone 17, expected in 2025, is mostly set, the new sensor is believed to arrive with the iPhone 19 in 2027, which is also Apple’s 20th anniversary phone.
The leaker also suggested that Apple has plans to change the design in the coming years. The iPhone 18 could feature a hole-punch screen and under-screen Face ID. The next model, the iPhone 19, might have a full-screen display with both Face ID and the camera hidden under the screen. These changes suggest Apple wants sleeker, more immersive phones.

Details about the iPhone 17 series have also appeared. The iPhone 17 Air is likely just 5.5 to 5.6mm thick and will have a new horizontal camera layout. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will look similar to the iPhone 16 Pro but include a new “camera bar” on the back.
Testing a 200MP sensor and exploring new display tech shows Apple wants to bring better photos and new designs together in future iPhones.
