Apple iPhone 17 May Get a Price Hike, But Not Because of Tariffs

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple is thinking about increasing the prices of its upcoming iPhone 17 models. The company hasn’t made a final decision yet, and this potential price hike is not related to the current US tariffs on Chinese products.

Even though the US and China agreed to pause new tariffs for 90 days, the existing taxes still apply. Imports from China to the US continue to face a combined tariff of 30%. Despite these factors, sources say Apple does not plan to blame any price hikes on trade conflicts.

Design Changes May Drive Pricing Shift

The report suggests Apple might explain higher prices by pointing to changes in the new lineup. The iPhone 17 Air will be thinner and lighter than previous models. The Pro models will have new features, including a redesigned camera system, aluminum frames, and reverse wireless charging. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to have these updates.

Production Shifts to India

At the same time, Apple is working hard to diversify its supply chain. The company is speeding up production shifts to India, and all US-sold iPhone 17 units are likely to be made there. Foxconn, its main partner, plans to double iPhone production in India to 30 million units in 2025.

Apple has not officially announced any pricing changes or the schedule for production updates.
