Apple is said to be preparing for the release of a new Mac Studio equipped with the M3 Ultra chip in conjunction with the eagerly awaited M4 MacBook Air. This information has been reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. The introduction of this new model to Apple’s offerings is unexpected, particularly given that the Mac Studio has not seen an update since the M2 Ultra version.
A Surprise Addition to the Lineup
Apple has recently introduced the M3 iPad Air and the 11th-generation iPad, both equipped with enhanced storage options and powered by the A16 chip. At this time, the company based in Cupertino is also gearing up to update its desktop offerings.
The upcoming Mac Studio is anticipated to incorporate the M3 Ultra chip, as opposed to the forthcoming M4 Ultra, which, according to Gurman, is intended for a later release of the Mac Pro.
The M3 Ultra is projected to provide substantial performance improvements over the already formidable M2 Ultra. This chip is expected to help Apple maintain its competitive edge against rivals such as AMD, whose Ryzen AI Max 395 Plus (built on Strix Halo) may rival the M3 Max but is likely to fall short of the M3 Ultra’s superior capabilities.
Apple M4 MacBook Air
Apple is preparing to introduce the M4 MacBook Air alongside the Mac Studio. The M4 chip is anticipated to enhance both efficiency and performance, further reinforcing Apple’s standing in the laptop sector.

The choice of the M3 Ultra for the Mac Studio may raise questions. However, this decision reflects Apple’s strategy of allocating its most advanced chips to premium products such as the Mac Pro. Nevertheless, the M3 Ultra is poised to deliver exceptional performance.
With the imminent launch of the new Mac Studio and M4 MacBook Air, Apple is expected to redefine performance standards while demonstrating the capabilities achievable with minimal power consumption and reduced fan noise.
