Apple Watch Series 11 debuts with hypertension detection, sleep score & 5G support

Apple has announced the Apple Watch Series 11, introducing hypertension notifications, sleep score tracking, and support for 5G connectivity. The new model aims to be a more complete health and fitness device with a thinner design, longer battery life, and improved durability.

Apple Watch Series 11 Specifications

Using its optical heart sensor, the Series 11 can analyze blood vessel response patterns over 30 days to identify potential chronic high blood pressure. Apple developed this capability using data from more than 100,000 individuals through machine learning, and a subsequent clinical study involving 2,000 participants validated it.

Over a million cases of undiagnosed hypertension are anticipated to be identified by the feature within the first year of its implementation. Subject to regulatory approval, it will begin its rollout in more than 150 nations in the latter part of this month.

Apple has introduced a new sleep score system that uses factors like sleep duration, stages, and consistency at bedtime to measure sleep quality. For long-term trend tracking, the score can be viewed directly on the watch, through Smart Stack widgets, or in the iPhone’s Health app.

Apple analyzed over 5 million nights of sleep data and used sleep recommendations from leading medical associations to create the algorithm.

The Watch Series 11 now supports 5G. Apple redesigned the antenna system to improve signal strength, especially in areas with poor coverage. Fast charging is also supported, and a 15-minute charge can give you up to 8 hours of use.

Total battery life reaches up to 24 hours in normal use and 38 hours in Low Power Mode.

The latest generation of the watch’s Ion-X glass, which is twice as resistant to scratches as the previous generation, is now available in aluminum versions. Titanium variants continue to use sapphire crystal displays for enhanced durability. The Always-On Retina LTPO OLED screen on both models reaches a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits.

The watch is powered by the brand-new S10 Chip, which has a neural engine with four cores and a dual-core 64-bit processor. It includes watch OS 26, which adds a redesigned interface with Liquid Glass effects, New watch faces, and updated apps.

The update also enables features like Live Translation in Messages, a wrist flick gesture, Workout Buddy with voice-based coaching, and Precision Finding for iPhone.
