ChatGPT replace Google’s Gemini to Be Your Default Digital Assistant on Android

Android users now have an exciting new choice for their default digital assistant, as the latest beta version of the ChatGPT app allows it to take the place of Google’s Gemini. This update from OpenAI lets users seamlessly incorporate the chatbot into their device’s main functions.

With this new feature, users can easily activate ChatGPT using standard Android navigation to access Google Assistant. Those who use the classic three-button navigation can launch the chatbot by pressing and holding the home button. For those who prefer gesture navigation, a quick swipe up and hold from either bottom corner of the screen will open ChatGPT. Additionally, if enabled, a long press of the power button will also bring up the chatbot.

When activated, ChatGPT will enter voice mode, allowing users to give voice commands to interact with the chatbot. However, it’s important to note that a voice-activated hotword, like “Hey, Google” for Gemini, is not yet available. This limitation is due to the requirement for specialized APIs, which are reserved for trusted, pre-installed applications.

The exact timeline for the full public rollout of this feature is still unclear. As a result, users who are not part of the Android beta program for ChatGPT may have to wait a bit longer. Nonetheless, the ability to set ChatGPT as a default digital assistant on Android devices is sure to provide users with more flexibility.
