Galaxy A17 4G Appears on Geekbench with some Disappointing Details

Samsung Galaxy A17 4G has appeared on Geekbench, showing it will run on the MediaTek Helio G99 chip.

Samsung plans to release two budget phones in late 2025, with details coming from Geekbench and Bluetooth SIG listings. The Galaxy A17 4G, with the model number SM-A175F, is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99. This chip is two years old and built with 6nm technology. It features two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at the same speed, along with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. The same processor was used in the Galaxy A16 and A15, and the Geekbench listing shows it will also appear in the A17. Its benchmark scores are slightly below those of earlier models.

While lower scores can be expected since the phone is still in development, it’s unlikely this alone will give a big boost in performance. An interesting find is the Android version it runs: the Galaxy A17 (4G) is being tested on Android 15 with One UI 7.0. However, One UI 8 is expected to launch in June or July with the new foldable phones, well before the A17’s release.

A 5G version of the A17 is also likely to come. It may use an Exynos chip or MediaTek Dimensity. Both the 4G and 5G models of the Galaxy A16 launched last October.

Meanwhile, Samsung is close to launching the Galaxy M36 5G. Its support page appears on Samsung UAE’s website. It features the Exynos 1380 chip built with 5nm technology, along with 6GB of RAM and Android 15. This model looks much like a rebranded Galaxy A36, which has a faster 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. The M36 will likely share the same 50MP main camera, 5,000mAh battery, and 25W charging. On AnTuTu, the Exynos 1380 scores around 500,000, which is lower than the A36 but still good enough for daily tasks.

It’s unclear if the older Helio G99 chip in the A17 4G will slow it down or if Samsung can use creative marketing to sell it well. Only time will tell.
