Samsung’s Galaxy S23 and S23+ have been spotted running One UI 8, based on Android 16, in a Geekbench listing. This hints at a major update for Samsung’s 2023 flagship phones. While One UI 7.0 is still rolling out, Samsung is moving quickly to push One UI 8, which could include better security and AI features by summer 2025.
Even though the Galaxy S23 series has been around for two years, it’s still in the spotlight. The Geekbench info shows the standard S23 (SM-S911U) and S23+ (SM-S916U) using Android 16, which forms the foundation for One UI 8.

The S23 Ultra (SM-S918U) didn’t show up in the leak, but all the listed models have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and 8GB of RAM. Samsung recently started rolling out One UI 7.0 based on Android 15, with the April 2025 security update. This update added Galaxy AI features like Note Assist, Call Assist, Interpreter, and Google Gemini.
One UI 8 is expected to launch with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 around July 2025. It looks like an upgrade that improves Galaxy AI and brings Android 16’s security features, such as the Advanced Protection Program to fight scams. It might also include stronger Factory Reset protection, AI malware detection, and better UWB support. Live Updates for lock screen widgets could also arrive.
This update will be its third upgrade, as Galaxy phones get support for four Android versions. One UI 8 will be the last major update for many devices. While the new security features will help users, the absence of advanced AI tools like Audio Eraser and Natural Language Search in One UI 7 feels like a missed opportunity. We’ll see what else Samsung has in store for One UI 8 on the S23 series.
