Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 9a, a budget-friendly addition to the Pixel 9 series. With a starting price of $499, this phone will be available in April and offers advanced features usually seen in more expensive models.
Design and Display
The Pixel 9a immediately showcases the same design style as the other models in the Pixel 9 lineup. This means a flat glass panel on the front with edges that transition into a flat aluminum frame. On the back, Google has chosen a polycarbonate material, which enhances durability without adding much weight. Additionally, the Google Pixel 9a boasts an IP68 rating, marking a significant improvement in water and dust resistance compared to last year’s Pixel 8a.
The display of Pixel 9a has a 6.3-inch pOLED screen that offers a resolution of 2424 x 1080 and supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The maximum brightness can reach up to 1800 nits for HDR content across the entire display, while peak brightness can hit 2700 nits when only 5% of the screen is in use. Although the display supports HDR, the color depth is limited to 8-bit.
Available color options include Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony, though not all colors may be offered in every region.

Internals and Software
The Pixel 9a is powered by Google’s latest Tensor G4 chipset with the Titan M2 security chip, which provides on-device security and strong encryption. It comes standard with 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage.
Additionally, the Google Pixel 9a is equipped with Android 15 right out of the box, giving users instant access to the newest software from Google. The company promises seven years of operating system and security updates, making it one of the most reliable options for software support in the Android ecosystem.
Pixel 9a Cameras
While the camera’s megapixel count has been reduced compared to previous A-series models, the Pixel 9a features a 48MP f/1.7 primary camera with Quad PD Dual Pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization. It also includes a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 13MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
The Pixel 9a is the first in the A-series to offer Macro Focus for close-up shots and the Astrophotography mode for capturing night skies.

Battery and Pricing
The Pixel 9a comes with a robust 5,100 mAh Li-Ion battery, which can supposedly last 30+ hours of usage on a single charge. This makes it the Pixel model with the largest battery so far, slightly surpassing the Pixel 9 Pro XL.
It supports 23W wired fast charging and supports Qi wireless charging as well. The starting price for the base model is $499, and for those who need more storage, there is an option to upgrade to the 256 GB version, with prices differing by region.
