How much tax is levied on mobile phones brought from abroad? Important details revealed

The details of taxes and duties have been made public by the Government. Applicable to both brand-new and pre-owned mobile phones imported into Pakistan.

The Federal Board of Revenue told the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance, as reported by a private television station, that customs duty, mobile levy, regulatory duty, sales tax, and withholding tax are collected at varying rates depending on the price of the mobile phone.

The FBR says that the valuation rolling determines the actual price of a mobile phone. The price is based on import records from the previous 90 days if a valuation is not available for a model.

Mobile phones worth up to $30 are subject to a mobile levy of Rs 100, a regulatory duty of Rs 300, an 18 percent sales tax, and a withholding tax of Rs 70.

Mobile phones in the $100 to $200 range are subject to a mobile levy of Rs. 600, a regulatory duty of Rs. 7,500, an 18 percent sales tax, and a withholding tax of Rs. 970.

Phones priced between $200 and $350 are charged a mobile levy of Rs 1,800, a regulatory duty of Rs 11,000, an 18 percent sales tax, and a withholding tax of Rs 5,000.

Phones priced between $350 and $500 are charged a mobile levy of Rs 4,000, a regulatory duty of Rs 15,000, an 18 percent sales tax, and a withholding tax of Rs 5,000.

The highest tax rate is on mobile phones priced above $500. A mobile levy of Rs 8,000 is applicable on these phones, and if the price exceeds $700, the same levy increases to Rs 16,000.

In addition, a regulatory duty of Rs 22,000, a sales tax of 25 percent, and a withholding tax of Rs 11,500 are collected.
