iPhone 17 will use the same chip and RAM as iPhone 16, Claims New Leak

Apple’s iPhone 17 might surprise some, but not for the reasons many expected. Rumors point to a bigger screen, but recent reports suggest the base model will not see a performance boost. It will use the same chipset and RAM as the iPhone 16, raising questions about how bold Apple is being. Is the company playing it safe with this launch? Let’s look at the details.

According to a research note from GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17, expected in September 2025, will have a 6.3-inch display. That’s larger than the 6.1-inch screen on the iPhone 16 and matches the Pro version’s size. This is a clear upgrade for users who want a bigger screen for streaming or multitasking. But here’s the odd part: the iPhone 17 will reportedly keep the A18 chip and 8GB of RAM, just like the previous model. At the same time, the iPhone 17 Air, Pro, and Pro Max are expected to move up to the A19 chip with 12GB of RAM. The base model feels like it’s being left behind.

Earlier rumors suggested Apple might update the iPhone 17’s RAM to compete with the other models. But Pu’s note indicates that the plan has been dropped. Sticking with the A18 chip seems strange, especially since it could make the phone less appealing for future AI features.

The A18 chip is still capable, powering the iPhone 16 efficiently. However, staying with it might indicate Apple wants buyers to consider the more expensive Pro or Air models instead.

The iPhone 17 will probably keep its 48MP main camera and IP68 water resistance. Rumors say iOS 26 will include new features like support for external displays. But without a chip or RAM upgrade, the phone risks seeming outdated compared to its fancier siblings. Apple’s WWDC event on June 9 might reveal more details, but for now, the iPhone 17 looks like a bigger screen in an older case.

Recently, there were reports that Apple is working on a future iPhone with a 200MP camera. You can find more details about that here.
