iPhone Air is Flopping So Badly Apple is Slashing Production by 80%

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple is trimming iPhone Air orders, joining other analysts who have noted a slowdown in demand, thanks to iPhone Air being far less popular than other iPhone 17 models.

According to Kuo, Apple is reducing both shipments and production capacity for the iPhone Air. Most suppliers are expected to scale back their capacity by more than 80% by the first quarter of 2026. In addition, some components with longer lead times will be discontinued entirely by the end of 2025.

This move suggests that the iPhone Air, much like the iPhone mini and iPhone Plus before it, has struggled to find a strong foothold in the market. Kuo points out that Apple’s Pro and standard models already meet most high-end user needs, leaving little space for new segments like the Air.

The production drop may look like a flop for the iPhone Air. But it does not spell the end. Pro models often draw the biggest crowds at first. Apple shifts output to match that pull. Its supply network bends easily to fit changes.

Standard iPhone types can pick up steam after launch. Yet the iPhone Air might stay as the sole kind if demand stays low. Buyers see it as a weak choice over others. It lacks key specs and perks, even at $999.
