Made-in-US iPhones Could Cost Over 17 Lacs in Pakistan, Reveals New Report

A recent report indicates that iPhones manufactured in the United States may soon become a luxury item that many Pakistanis cannot afford. If Apple decides to relocate its production from Asia to the US, the price of an iPhone could soar to approximately $3,500, which is nearly three times its current price. This potential increase is attributed to the new global tariff policies introduced by former US President Donald Trump, aimed at encouraging manufacturing within the United States. However, experts warn that this could result in economic challenges, with consumers facing the consequences of higher prices.

What It Means for Pakistani Buyers

Currently, high-end iPhones, such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, are priced around 5 lacs in Pakistan, inclusive of PTA taxes, which typically range from Rs. 1.5 to 1.75 lacs. The report suggests that if production moves to the US, the retail price could escalate to $3,500 (approximately Rs. 9.7 lacs), leading to an increase in PTA taxes as well. Experts predict that these taxes could rise by three to four times, adding an extra 6 to 7 lacs in duties alone.

PTA Tax (3–4x hike)6.5 to 7.5 lacs

A Luxury Beyond Reach?

With phone prices already soaring due to taxes, the introduction of US-made iPhones could make them even less affordable for Pakistanis. This change might compel many consumers to either stick with older models or consider switching to different brands altogether. As Apple seeks to lessen its reliance on China, it appears that Pakistani consumers may end up bearing the financial burden.
