MAI-Image-1, Microsoft’s first in-house AI image generator, has been officially launched. The model is now included in Bing Image Creator and Copilot Audio Expressions, two key Microsoft products.
In October, the company made the model public, beginning a new phase in its endeavor to create autonomous AI systems.
The update was shared by Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft’s AI chief, on X (formerly Twitter). He stated that users in the European Union (EU) will soon receive the model as well.
Suleyman explained that food images, nature scenes, and artistic lighting effects are the areas in which MAI-Image-1 excels most. Additionally, it produces photorealistic images that offer users high-quality visuals in a shorter amount of time and appear strikingly real.

The official Microsoft blog claims that MAI-Image-1 stands out due to its balance of speed and quality. Unlike many large and slower models, it can produce detailed and realistic images much faster.
According to the company, users can quickly and easily bring their concepts to life, make adjustments, and then transfer their work to additional editing tools.
The model is particularly adept at creating landscapes, reflections, and realistic lighting effects. Because of this, it can be used by casual and professional designers of creative content or visual art.
Integration with Copilot and Bing – How to Try it?
Copilot Audio Expressions, a tool for creating AI-generated stories with sound and images, has MAI-Image-1 integrated by Microsoft. In “story mode”.
The image generator will produce AI-generated art that matches the tone and theme of audio stories. Microsoft’s efforts to make AI tools more imaginative and immersive can be seen in this image and sound combination.
At the same time, users can access MAI-Image-1 directly through the Bing Image Creator website or app. It appears as one of three models on this platform. The other two are OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 and GPT-4o. MAI-Image-1 is an option for users who want fast and high-quality output.

Microsoft’s Expanding AI Ecosystem
The MAI-Voice-1 speech model and the MAI-1-preview text-based model were Microsoft’s first in-house AI models, and they were released in August 2025. These models were the first signs of Microsoft moving toward more independence from OpenAI’s technology.
Although Microsoft continues to use OpenAI’s models, such as GPT-5, in its Copilot assistant, it is also adding its own AI systems and even offering Anthropic’s Claude models as extra options.
This demonstrates Microsoft’s plan to reduce its reliance on a single partner and diversify its AI ecosystem.
Is MAI-Image-1 Available in Pakistan?
Yes, users in Pakistan can access it directly through Bing Image Creator and Microsoft Copilot, where the model is already integrated. Anyone using these platforms can test the new image generator’s capabilities.
