Microsoft Reportedly Exits Pakistan After 25 Years

Microsoft has reportedly shut down its operations in Pakistan after 25 years in the country. The remaining employees were only recently told about the full company closure.

Founding Country Manager Jawwad Rehman called this move “the end of an era.” He led the company’s local efforts for seven years, helping to build a team, serve customers, and develop digital infrastructure in Pakistan.

Rehman shared, “It wasn’t just a job—it was a calling.” He explained that those years focused on supporting communities, forming partnerships, earning trust, and giving opportunities to young Pakistanis. During its time there, Microsoft set up hundreds of computer labs in remote areas of the country.

The move comes at a difficult time for Pakistan, which is facing economic troubles and a growing gap in technology access. Once seen as a promising place for tech investment, many global firms have scaled back or pulled out. Microsoft had planned to expand in Pakistan in 2022 but shifted its focus to Vietnam after political instability increased.
