Samsung’s One UI 8, built on Android 16, will bring strong privacy and security tools. These features are part of Google’s Advanced Protection Program. The goal is to protect Galaxy phones and tablets from scams, theft, and fraud.
Announced on May 14 during Google’s The Android Show, Android 16’s security upgrades will arrive on Samsung devices through One UI 8.0. The release is expected in summer 2025. The Advanced Protection Program includes features like Remote Lock and Theft Detection Lock. These require a user password to turn off, providing solid security against unauthorized access. Created for Google’s apps, more options will later work with third-party apps.

Key tools include secure device logs that users can’t edit. These logs let users see if someone tampered with the device. During calls, One UI 8 blocks risky actions like installing untrusted apps or changing critical settings. This prevents scammers from gaining control. Banking apps also get better security. For example, screen-sharing calls end before access is allowed, and banks like Monzo and NatWest are already on board.
AI technology plays a big role here. It looks for malware, blocks scam messages, and spots apps that hide their icons. Factory Reset protections make stolen phones unusable unless the owner authorizes. Remote Lock now has a security question, and it hides one-time passwords from notifications. These updates work with Samsung’s Auto Blocker found in One UI 6.1.1.
The new features will launch with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in July, with a beta in June. One UI 8 could make Galaxy devices much safer. Still, some worries remain, like delayed support for third-party apps. The summer rollout will show how effective these updates are.
