One UI 8 does not bring many new features or major improvements. However, it is significant for several Galaxy A-series phones because it marks the end of support for these models. They will run Android 16 for the rest of their time.
If you own an older Galaxy A-series device, it’s worth checking if your next update will be the last. We’ve created a list based on Samsung’s current software update policy.
One UI 8 is the last stop for major updates on these Galaxy A-series phones
- Galaxy A33
- Galaxy A53
- Galaxy A73
These phones started with Android 12 and were promised four major Android updates. This means Android 16 will be their final OS version.
Although One UI 8, built on Android 16, will be the last big update for the Galaxy A33, A53, and A73, they might still get smaller updates like One UI 8.1. Security patches will also continue for a while.
If you have one of these phones, you might need to upgrade next year to get the latest features. Phones that guarantee six or seven OS updates will stay relevant longer.
When will Samsung start rolling out One UI 8?
Samsung has not announced when One UI 8 will be released. However, the company says the update will start rolling out to compatible devices “this summer,” between June and September.
Although the exact date is not yet clear, Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 will be the first to get One UI 8. These phones could see the update as soon as next month. This means One UI 8 will arrive sooner than last year.
Samsung usually begins updating its newer premium phones first. For Android 16-based One UI 8, the rollout will likely start with models like the Galaxy S25, S24, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6. The update will then slowly reach other high-end and mid-range Galaxy A phones.
If you have an older Galaxy A, it might take longer to get the update. The stable release is still about a month away. But if you own a Galaxy S25, you can try the One UI 8 beta now. It gives early access to the software before the official launch.
