Pakistan has made big strides in closing the digital gender gap, according to the new GSMA Mobile Gender Gap Report 2025. The survey shows Pakistan had the largest drop in the mobile internet gender gap worldwide, falling from 38% in 2023 to 25% in 2024 among 80 countries studied.
Record Growth in Women’s Mobile Internet Use
The report emphasizes that 2024 was a turning point for women’s access to digital tools in Pakistan. The biggest change came from more women in rural areas starting to use mobile internet, with male adoption still increasing by 7%. Data shows that in 2024, 8 million women and 5 million men in Pakistan began using mobile internet services.
This progress was made possible through efforts from both the government and private groups. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy and commitments from Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) under the GSMA Connected Women Initiative played key roles. Help from partners was also vital in reaching this milestone.
A Global Model for Inclusive Connectivity
Now in its eighth edition, the GSMA report points out that gaps still exist in internet use between genders. Still, Pakistan’s advances in 2024 show real progress and offer a model for other countries working to give everyone equal digital opportunities.
