Pakistan has “launched” its first Google Chromebook assembly line, which should help provide cheaper Google-based laptops for students and professionals in the local market.
In point of fact, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has only announced plans for an assembly line for Google Chromebooks, which he refers to as a “launch.”
Dar described the “launch” as a “momentous occasion” for Pakistan’s technology sector at a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday.
He stated that the local assembly of Chromebooks would make digital devices more affordable and accessible, particularly for students and the education sector.
By 2026, the brand-new assembly line based at the Haripur facility of the National Radio & Telecommunications Corporation (NRTC) will produce up to 500,000 Chromebooks annually.
These devices will be made specifically for educational and public sector use and will be of high quality, safe, and affordable.
The Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Pakistan Vision and the objectives of the National AI Policy will be directly supported by the Chromebook Assembly Line at NRTC Haripur, which will encourage local manufacturing, supply chain development, and industrial capacity.
Dar said the move goes beyond education, since it will also help create new jobs, strengthen supply chains, and lay the foundation for future technology exports.
Dar highlighted that Google’s presence will enable closer collaboration with Pakistani startups and entrepreneurs, providing capacity building and better access to global platforms.

Google to Train 100,000 Developers
Pakistan and Google have signed a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the training of 100,000 developers nationwide. In addition, both sides will push for AI-powered localized solutions, such as public safety services based on Android.
Pakistan’s policy aims to make the country a regional hub for technology development, according to the deputy prime minister, who reiterated the government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment for international technology companies.
