PTA and FIA Raid 4 Mobile Shops in Gilgit Against IMEI Cloning and Tampering

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), along with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and local police, carried out targeted raids on four mobile repair shops in NLI Market, Gilgit City. These shops were suspected of tampering with IMEI numbers and cloning phones.

During the raids, officials seized two laptops and two CPUs from the shops. The FIA has started an official investigation and sent the computers for forensic testing. The results will determine if legal action is needed.

These operations show PTA’s ongoing effort to stop illegal activities that threaten mobile network security. The goal is to prevent the illegal changing of IMEI numbers and protect consumers in Gilgit City.

PTA has also introduced new rules for telecom companies. These rules make it illegal to charge customers without proper notice. Now, automatic renewal of plans and offers is banned unless consumers are informed first. Customers will also get alerts before any changes to their plans. These steps aim to reduce surprise bills and give users better control over their telecom costs.
