PTA Gets CCP-Forwarded Request to Ban Buyer Favorite Temu in Pakistan

The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) sent a request to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). This request came from the Pakistan Retail Business Council (PRBC). It also came from the Chain Store Association of Pakistan (CAP). They asked for a ban on the popular e-commerce app Temu. Concerns were raised about its unregulated operations. There were worries about harm to local businesses.

An official CCP letter dated August 22, 2025, details this. The PRBC and CAP objected to Temu and Shein. Both operate in Pakistan without proper approval. The PRBC specifically asked the government to limit Temu’s actions. They claim their methods could hurt local stores and customers.

The CCP clarified that it cannot ban or block mobile apps. This is according to the Competition Act, 2010. Apps on stores like Google Play are outside its power. The CCP stated that regulating and restricting access is the PTA’s job. This falls under relevant laws and rules.

The letter stated, “In view of the above, the matter is hereby forwarded to the PTA for further necessary action, if deemed appropriate.”

The PTA will now make the final decision. It could block Temu or add limits to its services in the country.
