Due to scheduled maintenance work by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that its Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) will experience a planned service interruption this weekend.
The system will be unavailable beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, and it is anticipated that it will reopen by Sunday, December 7, 2025. Users will not be able to access related services or register new handsets during this time.
People who want to register imported or SIM-based devices have been told by the authorities to finish the process before the maintenance window ends.
DIRBS, which is run by the PTA and the FBR together, helps stop illegal handset imports, makes sure that duty is paid, and checks devices on local networks.

Even though the pause is officially for system maintenance, some industry observers wonder if it might indicate upcoming adjustments to mobile taxes or duties.
In order to ensure that services will resume following the conclusion of the maintenance cycle, the PTA has asked for the public’s assistance during the upgrade.
Users are urged to keep abreast of any subsequent announcements made by the PTA and the FBR regarding any potential effects on fees or duties for mobile registration.
