To improve the quality of higher education in the province, the Punjab government has decided to establish an official university ranking system.
Sources claim that the initiative will assess more than 60 Punjabi public and private universities and select the top ten based on performance and quality metrics.
This marks the first time the province is introducing a formal and structured university ranking system. The mechanism for ranking will be developed at a cost of Rs. 50 million, with the project’s PC-1 already completed and initial approval pending.
Officials said the ranking will become a permanent annual feature, updated each year based on universities’ performance. Higher education institutions’ funding allocations and policy decisions will also be influenced by the findings.
The new rating system, according to a government spokesperson, aims to foster academic excellence, fair competition, and transparency among universities.
