Realme ‘Ultra’ Phone with Interchangeable Camera Lens Announced at MWC 2025

The Realme ‘Ultra’ smartphone was unveiled at MWC 2025 on Monday. This prototype device features an innovative, interchangeable lens system. Realme had previously hinted at the design and has confirmed several camera specifications, including a custom Sony 1-inch sensor paired with a HyperImage+ engine and the ability to achieve 10x optical telephoto zoom.

Realme has announced that its Realme Ultra smartphone features a Leica M mount designed for a modular camera system. The company showcased this capability with two lenses: a 73mm portrait lens, offering approximately 3x zoom, and a 234mm telephoto lens, providing around 10x zoom.

The device has a triple-camera setup, including a primary sensor, an ultrawide camera, and a rectangular 1-inch direct light CMOS sensor intended for interchangeable lenses.

Realme asserts that these interchangeable lenses can “push the limit of mobile imaging,” a feat made possible by integrating Realme’s Hyperimage+ image algorithms alongside DSLR optics.

With the addition of interchangeable lenses, the smartphone is expected to achieve longer zoom capabilities while maintaining clarity and depth of field akin to that of a DSLR camera.

To protect the 1-inch sensor, Realme has incorporated glass shielding, which serves to prevent dust accumulation in the absence of a lens cap.

This is not the first instance of a smartphone featuring swappable lenses; the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept Edition previously showcased this technology. Other manufacturers, including Sony and Moment, have also introduced devices with detachable lenses.

Internally, the Realme Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, a flagship chip for 2023. However, it remains a concept device and has not yet entered mass production. Should we acquire the device, we will evaluate its photographic capabilities and overall ergonomics.
