Google is testing Android 16 in its Beta Program. The official release is expected in early June 2025. This year, Google plans two Android updates—one big and one small. Samsung will update its devices to Android 16 later this year and will launch its new One UI 8 in the second half of 2025.
Samsung has already finished testing One UI 7 and is rolling out Android 15 to many Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Several devices have already received this update. Although the rollout for One UI 7 was slow, fans expect One UI 8 to be faster and smoother.
Will Your Samsung Phone Get the Android 16 Update?
Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones will come with Android 16 straight out of the box. An Open Beta for One UI 8 might start by late this month or early June. This quicker release is partly thanks to Google’s push to get Android updated more quickly across brands.
Over recent years, Samsung has improved how it handles updates. Most new Galaxy phones are now promised four to six years of Android updates. Flagship models like the Galaxy S24 series will get updates for up to seven years. This long support helps keep devices secure and adds new features.
If you wonder whether your phone will get Android 16, here’s a simple rule. If your device shipped with Android 14, it’s likely to get Android 16. This includes even entry-level models. Mid-range and high-end phones usually won’t have trouble getting the update.
Here’s a list of Samsung devices likely to receive Android 16 with One UI 8:
Galaxy S Series:
- Galaxy S22, S23, and S24 series
Galaxy Z Fold & Flip Series:
- Galaxy Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4
- Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5
- Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6

Galaxy Tab Series:
- Galaxy Tab S8, S8+, S8 Ultra
- Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, S9 Ultra
- Galaxy Tab S10+, S10 Ultra
Keep in mind, Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed this list. But based on past updates and how the company handles things, these devices should get the update first.
One thing to notice is that the Galaxy S21 FE is included, but not the main Galaxy S21 series. The FE model started with Android 12 and is promised four updates. The regular S21 launched with Android 11 and might miss out on Android 16.
As Samsung gets ready for Android 16, users can expect faster and more reliable updates. The future looks good for Galaxy owners who want the latest Android features and security.
