Samsung One UI 7 represents the most significant enhancement in recent years, having undergone over three years of planning and development. This substantial upgrade introduces many new features, including numerous AI functionalities, a comprehensive visual redesign of icons and widgets, various enhancements, and extensive customization options. Additionally, it includes the long-awaited vertical app drawer. Consequently, there is much to look forward to.
One UI 7 New Features
Design and UI Changes
- Now Bar represents a significant visual enhancement in One UI 7. This pill-shaped interface element is positioned at the bottom of the lock screen, granting immediate access to essential information from various applications.
- App Icons have transformed, with most native applications receiving updated icons that feature a more vibrant and colorful design. This improvement not only enhances their aesthetic appeal but also facilitates easier recognition.
- Widgets have been redesigned to exhibit a bolder appearance and a more dynamic color scheme, contributing to a visually cohesive interface. One UI 7 allows users to position widgets freely on the home screen and introduces new interactive widget options.
- Quick Settings have been streamlined, providing a smoother experience than in previous versions. Samsung also offers customization options for how users can access these settings.
- Camera App has been revamped to improve usability, featuring a cleaner layout with fewer on-screen options and simplified zoom controls, making it more intuitive.
- Charging Animations enhance the visual experience, displaying the charging status and battery level through the Now Bar when the device is locked, accompanied by a distinctive green progress bar. When the device is unlocked, connecting the charger changes the battery icon to green and triggers a “Charging” text animation.
- Smoother Animations have been significantly improved, resulting in a more fluid experience when opening apps, switching between them, and navigating the user interface.
Customizations
- Vertical app drawer: The long-awaited vertical app drawer has finally arrived in One UI 7, enhancing your user experience.
- Home screen: The customization options for the home screen have significantly improved, allowing for the creation of free-form layouts. The integration of Home Up into One UI Home eliminates the necessity for a separate application. Additionally, users can now incorporate stickers onto their home screens.
- Lock screen: The lock screen now features new clock styles with customizable fonts, colors, and sizes, offering a more personalized touch. Users have the flexibility to adjust the clock’s position and add additional widgets. The “Suggest” feature provides new background styles that complement the current wallpaper.
- Quick Settings: The notifications and quick settings panel have been distinctly separated. Swiping down from the top left reveals notifications while swiping down from the top right accesses the Quick Settings panel. Users have the option to revert these changes at any time. One UI 7 enhances the ability to customize the Quick Settings panel further.
Galaxy AI Features
- Writing Assistance: This feature is now integrated throughout the user interface. Users can select text from any location on their Samsung Galaxy devices and enhance it conveniently.
- Call Transcriptions: This functionality can automatically transcribe recorded calls in as many as 20 languages, eliminating the need for manual note-taking during conversations or replaying recordings to find specific information.
- Now Brief: This feature leverages on-device artificial intelligence to deliver pertinent information tailored to the time and user behavior. It operates through a “Personal Data Engine” that necessitates significant on-device processing capabilities. However, this feature may not be available on the majority of Galaxy devices.
- Audio Enhancer for Videos: This tool enhances the audio quality of video recordings by eliminating undesirable background noises, thereby enriching the overall auditory experience.
- Object Removal for Videos: The object removal feature for videos is now compatible with One UI 7. It enables users to select and eliminate unwanted elements from video frames.

One UI Release Date
Samsung One UI 7 was released last month in the Galaxy S25 Series, and One UI 7 beta is rolling out in Galaxy S24. The sad part is that Samsung hasn’t even announced a One UI 7 rollout timeline yet. However, recent leaks suggest the stable version won’t roll out anytime soon. Samsung is expected to release a few more betas to the Galaxy S24 series before the stable update arrives sometime in April.
Most Galaxy S series phones should get the stable One UI 7 update in April. The update will gradually roll out to other devices like the Galaxy Z series, M series, A series, and F series. According to some reports, Samsung will conclude the stable rollout of One UI 7 within the first half of 2025.
