Samsung has possibly leaked an early look at its new tri-fold phone through its latest One UI 8 software. A report from Android Authority points out that new animation files hidden inside the update show a multi-panel foldable device unlike any current Samsung foldable.
The device appears to fold in a G-shape, with two inward hinges. Multiple animations depict this design, suggesting it has three parts: the left panel with a triple-camera setup, the middle section featuring an external display with a front camera, and the right panel, which seems empty. This section likely only closes the fold without serving as a display.
The fold closely resembles Samsung Display’s previous “Flex G” prototype, with inward hinges on both sides. It’s different from Huawei’s S-shaped fold, which uses a mix of inward and outward hinges.
The darker animation versions make the different hinge sizes more obvious. This variation may be intentional, possibly to lessen stress on the screen when folded. One warning animation also hints that folding the camera side first should be avoided, suggesting a sensitive folding mechanism.
Samsung calls this device “Multifold 7” within One UI 8, which is probably an internal or placeholder name. The official retail name could be the “Galaxy G Fold.” Samsung has not officially confirmed the device’s existence beyond a teaser shown at a previous Unpacked event. With the next big launch coming soon, expected to include the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and the Flip FE, it’s uncertain if this tri-fold will appear publicly or stay hidden for now.
Still, the One UI animations strongly suggest Samsung’s interest in multi-fold designs goes beyond just ideas. The company seems close to bringing a new foldable style to market.
