TikTok Can Now Turn Static Photos to Animated Clips

TikTok has launched a new feature called AI Alive. It lets users turn static photos into short animated videos using simple text prompts. The tool runs on ByteDance’s image-to-video AI model and is now part of TikTok’s Story Camera.

How AI Alive Works

To use AI Alive, open the Story Camera and choose an image from the Story Album. A new “AI Alive” icon appears next to existing editing tools. When clicked, a text box prompts you to describe how you want the image to move. After submitting, the system creates a short video that makes the photo appear alive.

TikTok says AI Alive can animate many details like changing scenery, small facial expressions, and hand gestures. For example, a photo of a sunset can turn into a cinematic clip with shifting colors, floating clouds, and background sounds. Group selfies can also be made more lively with animated movements and realistic effects, making them more fun to share.

Safety and Transparency Measures

The company has added safety features to prevent misuse. All videos created with AI Alive will include C2PA metadata. This is a common way to mark AI-generated content, helping viewers recognize what is real and what is synthetic.

TikTok confirms that the feature’s results are checked with multiple reviews to catch harmful or inappropriate content. However, no demo video has been shared yet. It remains to be seen how well the tool works in everyday use.
