Vivo has launched the X Fold 5, a new foldable smartphone that offers top-tier durability and a large battery. It’s thinner than the previous model and was first shown in China. Like the X Fold 3 Pro, it may soon be available in other countries.
Display
The X Fold 5 keeps the same display sizes as before. The outside screen measures 6.53 inches, while the inner foldable panel is 8.03 inches. The Titanium version is just 9.2mm thick when folded and only 4.3mm when open. It weighs 217 grams, making it the thinnest book-style foldable phone so far. Its hinge, made of steel and carbon fiber, is strong but lightweight, balancing stability and weight.

This is the first foldable phone with both IPX8 and IPX9+ water resistance ratings. It also has an IP5X dust resistance rating. The inner LTPO OLED screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate, with a sharp resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels. It features 10-bit color and a brightness peak of 4,500 nits.

Internals and Software
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the phone can have 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB with UFS 4.1 technology. Though the chip is older, it still handles demanding tasks well.
Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 with DisplayPort. It also supports off-grid voice and text communication via Bluetooth at distances up to one kilometer.

Cameras
The rear camera set includes three 50MP sensors, all designed with Zeiss. The main camera uses a 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX921 sensor with an f/1.57 aperture and OIS. The telephoto lens offers a 3x zoom and a 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor with OIS. The ultrawide lens also has a 50MP sensor with a 15mm view and f/2.05 aperture. Zeiss T* coating on all lenses helps reduce glare.

Battery and Pricing
The Vivo X Fold 5 has a 6,000mAh battery, the largest found in any foldable phone to date. It is made of two silicon-carbon cells, each with 3,275mAh and 2,725mAh capacities. The phone supports 80W wired charging and 40W wireless charging.
In China, the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage costs about $975. The 12GB with 512GB costs $1,115. The 16GB/512GB model is priced at $1,255, and the top 16GB/1TB model is $1,325. Prices outside China may vary.
